Ay, Caramba! Bart Makes Robo-Call for Scientology

Actress who provides cartoon icon's voice uses it to plug controversial church

(Newser) – Actress Nancy Cartwright’s affiliation with Scientology has escaped public notice for the most part, but those days could be over. Cartwright, the voice of Bart on The Simpsons, is featured on a robo-call announcing a church event, the Village Voice reports. The actress peppers the invitation to the “Mecca of technical perfection” with her Bart Simpson voice and trademark laugh.

Cartwright starts the call saying “this is Bart Simpson” in character and, after assuring listeners it is in fact her, launches into her spiel (in a disconcertingly similar voice). “I’m now auditing on New OTVII,” she says, and will “share my many wins” as an “auditor” at the event. “It's gonna be a blast, man!” she signs off—in character, of course.

Operatin Thetan Level 7 means that Cartwright is discovering the revealed truth about leftover nuclear energy residing in us all, resulting from a galactic war millions of years ago lead by liberal leaning space aliens and their leader Xenu. Cartwright and her fellow OT7s have forked over thousands of dollars to hear this 2-cent science fiction story. People are just so unbelievably crazy. The fact that people actually fall for this utter nonsense is more unbelievable than the story itself.

If the Scientologists don't get hit with a cease and desist order, then we'll know there're more Scientologists in the Simpsons than just Cartwright.
