UK Restores Water to Flooded Areas

Posted Jul 29, 07 5:29 PM CDT in World

(Newser) – Water supplies are returning to thousands of homes in England after torrential rain flooded the area in an and around Gloucester and knocked out a water treatment plant. Reinstated water will not be potable, warn officials, and should not be used to cook, make ice, or brush teeth.

A county police chief urged patience. "There is light at the end of the tunnel," he told the inundated residents. Nearly 140K houses lost water when floods hit beginning more than a week ago; 54K homes are expected to regain water by tomorrow, although 1,200 miles of water pipes still need to be refilled. Dry weather is forecast for the rest of the week.
