Plastic Surgeons Cut a New Path Down Under

Posted Mar 6, 07 8:04 AM CST in Science & Health Arts & Living

(Newser) – David Matlock, a flamboyant California gynecologist who's been a pioneer in cosmetic surgery aimed at giving women "a youthful, aesthetic look" for their nether regions, has unleashed a host of protégés now improving unsightly genitals all over the country. Despite being uninsured, the procedures are growing in popularity: doctors across the country "rejuvenated" almost 800 vaginas in 2005.

"I'm asked about these procedures a lot," said sex therapist Laura Berman, who directs an eponymous clinic for women in Chicago. "We're in a culture, unfortunately, where most women are falling down a slippery slope with plastic surgery. It's very disturbing."
