GOP Proposes Alternative Stimulus

$478B plan, about half the cost of Obama's, said to create 6.2M jobs

(Newser) – House Republicans, fresh from unanimously opposing President Obama’s stimulus package, have proposed their own rescue bill, even as the White House promises retaliation, Politico reports. GOP leaders say their version would cost $478 billion—just over half the Obama price tag—and create 6.2 million jobs, a third more than the Democrats’ version.

The White House, meanwhile, plans to dole out state-by-state job figures “so we can put a number on what folks voted against,” one aide said. Voters, he predicted, “will be stunned to learn their member of Congress voted against creating 3 million jobs.” Counters a GOP aide: “What member can’t go back to his or her district and explain: I voted for an alternative that would create twice the jobs at half the cost?”

Persuading all of the House's Republicans to vote against the stimulus package yesterday can be seen as a coup for Minority Leader John Boehner.

I think you have had a few too many Coronas! Liberals are not bitter. I would say more tangy. Twice the result with half the money. Sounds great. I am really ready to trust the Republicans since they have gotten half the result for twice the money over the last eight years. In truth, I am so relieved to see that the Republicans are filling the void left by Bush. Comedians rejoice. You can now make fun of Congress to pass the time until another GOP president is elected. Let say another 32 years!

What's the Republican plan? Invade Iran and bring back the draft? That could conceivably create 6 million jobs. And cost $500 billion (in the first year).
