Blue States Dominate, and Purple Gains Ground

Dramatic shift in electorate favors liberals: poll

Share

(Newser) – Blue states are far bluer than red states are red, says a new Gallup poll. Party registrations favor Democrats—they lead by 10 or more percentage points in 29 states and the DC, compared to four states where Republicans dominate—suggesting that Dems can expand on ther gains they made in last year's elections, the Hill reports.

Utah ranked as the reddest state, Rhode Island as the bluest. But party registration figures can mislead. Utah has a Democratic rep, Rhode Island a Republican governor, and a number of states that might have been expected to back Barack Obama or John McCain swung the other way.. Still, the bluing of the nation signals a dramatic shift: In 2002, a majority of states filed in the Republican column.

So let me get this straight: the country has been in good hands for the past 8 years, but the American voters simply wanted the political equivalent of a new hairdo? I thank you for you respect.... Dream of the future all you want, but I guarantee you one thing: if the GOP returns to power, it won't be a result of embracing such a blasé, c'est la vie attitude as yours, and it won't be because of any retarded smugness about the party's recent history of utter failure.... The GOP are losers because they're out of power; the GOP are out of power because they're losers--take your pick!

Yup, Republicans are an endangered species now, and after the new immigration bills pass, and Acorn gets them to sign up Democratic, the rest of the states will turn purple, then blue. Time to check out the Libertarian Party. Reply

However, a vast expanse of wasteland known as Rush's Fat Face has turned pronouncedly more red! Reply

And this--from another source--is sweet: "According to Gallup, there are only five states that now have a statistically significant majorities of Republicans... Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska and Nebraska." Reply
