Boulder Cops Take Over JonBenet Case

(Newser) – Police in Boulder, Colo. are taking control of the investigation into JonBenet Ramsey's 1996 murder, the Colorado Daily reports. Reclaiming the probe from the Boulder County DA, police plan to include state and federal investigators and apply new technology to the cold case. “Some cases never get solved, but some do,” Police Chief Mark Beckner said. “And you can’t give up.”

The DA took over the case in 2002 amid criticism that police had unfairly focused on the Ramseys as suspects. The family received an apology last year after investigators found that their daughter, a 6-year-old beauty queen, was likely killed by an intruder. Police now plan to “explore all possible theories about what happened the night JonBenet was killed," Beckner said.
