Rant Just Bale in Character: Producer

Stress pushed method actor over edge on Terminator 4 set

(Newser) – Christian Bale’s profane tirade on the Terminator Salvation set was just another day on the job, an assistant director/producer tells TMZ. “Christian is a method actor and was completely immersed in his scene,” he insists. “Bale’s reaction was from the heat of the moment.” An intense Dark Knight promotion schedule didn’t help, either. No word yet on whether the targeted photography director took the incident as lightly.

Bale was in character when he launched into a 4-minute tirade, says an assistant director on the set of the new Terminator.

"you simply don't talk to people like that" Says who? if I was at work, and someone put my report in the shredder (destroying my work) and they should have damn well known better, I would be pissed... If it happened a second time (as it sounds like it was in this case) I would lose my shit. The guy should have known better, and he did it anyway. If Bale had actually hit him, that would be different If you are an adult, and a supposed professional, and you keep doing stupid shit like that, you should count yourself lucky that you got out of the situation with your job intact. "it's not necessary"... says who?? Obviously this guy did it before, and if Bale had let it slide, it probably would have happened again. With some people, they just need something like this to understand that what they are doing cannot continue. I bet he didn't do it again!

method actor? meh, you simply don't talk to people like that, it's not necessary. There are much better ways to handle and correct that situation. To suggest that Bale's outburst was simply caused by being "in character" is just one of many excuses this loser has been given to legitimize his narcissistic behavior.

It sounds like this director of photography was just clueless about how to conduct himself around an intense actor doing a scene. I don't blame Bale in the least. Having performed enough to appreciate the difficulty and risks necessary to deeply apprehend a character, I probably would have done something very similar. I know it sounds bratty to non-actors, but I kid you not: acting with the profound commitment like Bale does leaves you exposed emotionally. A better director would have intercepted his DP and secured his set more firmly.
