Citigroup Sues Pawnshop Over Similar Name, Logo

Struggling bank seeks all profits made by Brooklyn's All Citi Pawn

(Newser) – Citigroup is suing a Brooklyn pawnshop for copyright infringement, the New York Post reports. The logo for All Citi Pawn sports the distinctive “i” and a similar red mark over the “t.” Citigroup’s suit demands the pawnshop fork over all profits made since it adopted the logo. The shop’s manager has changed the logo, but Citi is pressing on with the claim.

Police raid Kim Dotcom's fortified mansion

(NEWSER) - New Zealand police raided the fortified mansion of Megaupload founder "Kim Dotcom" today, and the arrest did not go smoothly. Police tell the AFP that when they arrived, Dotcom, who is also known as Kim Schmitz, "retreated into the house and activated a number of electronic locking mechanisms," eventually barricading himself inside a safe room police had to cut their way into. Citi Cutting 4,500 Jobs

Bank faces 'extremely challenging' conditions, CEO says

(NEWSER) - Citigroup plans to cut some 4,500 jobs—2% of its global workforce—in the coming months as it "faces an extremely challenging operating environment," CEO Vikram Pandit warns. Pandit, who has cut more than 100,000 jobs at Citi since taking charge in 2007, says regulatory changes and the euro zone crisis are among the factors forcing the company to cut costs as revenue slumps, Reuters reports. Massachusetts Sues Big Banks Over Mortgage Fraud

Says it will not sign onto any lenient robosigning settlement

(NEWSER) - Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley—best remembered for her failed campaign against Scott Brown —has filed a lawsuit against Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Ally Financial over alleged mortgage fraud offenses, including the “robo-signing” scandal. The suit also names MERSCORP which produces an electronic mortgage registration system, the Boston Globe reports. Coakley is essentially breaking away from the rest of the country’s attorney generals, who have been haltingly trying to negotiate a settlement en-masse with the banks. More»

Samsung Sues Apple to Block iPhone 4S Sales

Lawsuits filed in Japan and Australia

(NEWSER) - Samsung fired another salvo in its legal war with Apple today, filing suits in Japan and Australia to try to prevent iPhone 4S sales there—on top of similar suits already filed in France and Italy. Each suit revolves around a different patent Samsung says Apple is infringing, the Wall Street Journal reports. In Japan, it’s a user-interface patent, while in Australia it’s a patent on wireless telecom standards. More»
