(Newser) – Carol Carter, a Florida Republican committeewoman, isn’t racist. It’s just that she likes Katrina jokes. So much that she emailed this one around last week: “How can 2,000,000 blacks get into Washington, DC in 1 day in sub zero temps when 200,000 couldn't get out of New Orleans in 85 degree temps with four days notice?” After GOP higher-ups were not amused, Carter resigned her position last night, reports the St. Petersburg Times.

Carter is the real victim, swear her friends. Says Janice Torgerson, another local official, “I've known Carol for many, many years and I know she doesn't have a racist bone in her body.” And, though she “can’t condone” Carter’s taste in humor, she says it's “tragically sad to be losing someone like her.”

Our party is is the party of Abraham Lincoln, is the party that has fought traditionally for African-Americans,. And now for the third time this year to be accused of racism is a stake in our heart. - Janice Torgersen, Hillsborough Co. Republican Executive Committee official

Carol Carter has been a hard-working, loyal Republican for many years. I appreciate her many notable contributions to our party, but this action I have no tolerance for, regardless of the circumstances or intent.
- Jim Greer, Florida GOP chairman

If your hurting people, it doesn't matter how they are being hurt. Just stop hurting them. If Limbaugh's song wasn't used to hurt people, he would have never used it. The guy likes to hurt people. I don't hate all the white people for his decades of racial slurs (I guess I can say that, being white), I just don't like him.

To all of you who don't get how this or Limbaugh's magic negro song are racist either you are horrible liars or you aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.
