(Newser) – Falcons Quarterback Michael Vick financed the dogfighting ring busted on his Virginia property, his co-defendant told prosecutors yesterday. Tony Taylor entered a guilty plea for his role in Bad Newz Kennels, the organization Vick allegedly used to train and fight dogs, Bloomberg reports. Taylor's cooperation wasn't based on a specific sentencing deal, he told the AP.

Vick put up the money for Bad Newz Kennels and funded fight wagers, Taylor said in a statement. The illegal bouts resulted in the death of several animals, due either to injuries or euthanasia by "drowning, hanging, beating, shooting, or electrocution," according to indictments against the men.  Vick faces up to six years in federal prison if convicted.
