Obamas Haunt Our Dreams—Even Sexy Ones

(Newser) – Americans have a unique connection with Barack Obama—one they might want to discuss with a therapist, writes Judith Warner in the New York Times. From strange dreams to sexual obsessions, everyone seems hung up on the president. Warner has dreamed about him taking a shower and smoking in the house; asked to (over)share, one LA woman replied, “Barack and Michelle look like they have sex. Often. With each other.”

It’s probably because the president seems so familiar. “Notwithstanding his somewhat exotic life story, I feel like I understand what he’s like,” said one Washington man. Of course, for many, that’s not a good thing. “They seem to have it all together—a great marriage, beautiful children, a modern-day Norman Rockwell family,” said one divorced Harvard grad. “Why them, not me?”

In journalism, two anecdotes are just one short of a national trend. I figured that my friend and I couldn't possibly be the only ones dreaming, brooding or otherwise obsessing about the Obamas. - Judith Warner

I watch Barack I feel like: I can do that, and what am I doing with my life? Even though he is way smarter and more articulate than me. - A Washington lawyer

I was at a place where I was tempted daily to throttle my husband. This coincided with Michelle saying the most beautiful things about Barack. Each time I heard her speak about him I got tears in my eyes. - One of Warner's friends

On 9/12/01 Bush had 91% approval. When he started making poor policy decisions and people started to question his ability to lead they were attacked as unpatriotic. Now flip the script and fast forward to 2009. Less then 3 weeks into his term and those same people on the right are throwing anything they can at him including him for the mess that was there when he took office. Sorry, Pubes. America woke up and decided your relevance was nil. Deal with it.
