'Vulnerable' Simpson Loses It Onstage

(Newser) – Sympathetic fans helped Jessica Simpson through a strained performance last night during which she flubbed lines, restarted songs, and wept visibly, the Grand Rapids Press reports. The singer has been plagued by media reports that boyfriend Tony Romo is cheating and snide remarks about her reported weight gain. “You go, girl!” one fan yelled after Simpson said she felt “so vulnerable onstage.”

Simpson said her band helped her through the performance: “They had my back the whole time.” Fans were supportive not only during the performance, but after. “I felt bad for her tonight,” one said. “Magazines are ripping her, being so harsh, and she's gorgeous.” Another concurred. “She is way thinner than she looked in the magazines.” Still, the performance was “uncomfortable to watch,” he said.

The teens had created the posters for a Chevy-sponsored contest in hopes of winning the top prize: meeting the trio in person.
