Whitney Houston emerged from seclusion to headline the star-studded Pre-Grammy Gala last night, and didn’t disappoint, Edna Gundersen writes in USA Today. The diva belted out a “short but lively medley” that included I Will Always Love You and I’m Every Woman. But she wasn’t the only A-lister: Paul McCartney, Prince, Sly Stone, Rihanna, the Jonas Brothers, and Miley Cyrus also attended.

A Jennifer Hudson-Barry Manilow duet and tributes to legendary producer Clive Davis were the evening’s other highlights. Kanye West apologized for his Grammy acceptance speech last year, saying, “I was embarrassed by the pompous attitude I was giving off.” The gala was so packed with celebrities even Babyface said, “We’re just groupies tonight. We want to get pictures and autographs.”
