(Newser) – Kate Winslet and Slumdog Millionaire won big at last night's BAFTA ceremony—one more sign that the actress and film are steaming toward Oscar wins, reports the Independent. Here's the line up for the British awards:

  • Winslet won Best Actress for The Reader, competing against her own second nomination for acting in Revolutionary Road.
  • Danny Boyle's Slumdog clinched 7 BAFTAs, including awards for Best Film and Director.

  • Heath Ledger was honored posthumously for his supporting role in The Dark Knight. "We cannot begin to imagine what he was going to be," said Monty Python's Terry Gilliam.
  • Mickey Rourke won the Best Actor nod for The Wrestler, beating out Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which took home three of its 11 nominations.
  • Critics' fave Frost/Nixon left empty-handed.

After stuttering through her Golden Globe acceptance speech, Kate Winslet came to the BAFTA prepared to win with poise.
