(Newser) – Police are trying to beef up the case against Chris Brown and expect to complete their investigation next week, the New York Daily News reports. Rihanna is cooperating, and investigators expect to reinterview both parties before involving the DA's office, which has already asked for more evidence, a source tells TMZ, because "the DA is not going to prosecute a high-profile case like this unless it's solid."

“Chris really feels bad about the whole situation,” one friend said. But Rihanna told police her relationship with Brown was filled with escalating abuse, and her friends were concerned when she had bruises on her neck in December, Us reports. Another source told Life & Style police were called to a hotel in 2007 when Brown got scary with his own mother, “screaming and throwing dishes.”

C'mon, no one should be judging Brown until the actual details come out. This isn't an Ike/Tine story, where Tina stayed with Ike because she had no where else to turn and support wasn't available. Rihanna made the comment that the relationship was filled with escalating abuse and her friends were concerned, yet no one said anything? I don't buy it. The fact that she stated she started attacking him first makes the case even more suspect. I don't condone abuse of women whatsoever, but the responsibility falls with both individuals, and had this been a regular domestic both parties would have been arrested.

"Chris really feels bad about the whole situation." Yeah, he was caught being abusive, and that's just bad PR.
