(Newser) – A group of Heath Ledger fans are calling for the Batman movies to hang up the Joker's purple suit for good as a tribute to the late actor's last role, CNN reports. Supporters at website "The Ultimate Joker" say no actor could ever nail the killer clown as well as Ledger did, and are aiming to get 50,000 people to sign their petition.

We think Heath deserves this honor. He is the ultimate Joker. When Michael Jordan retired, they withdrew the number 23 jersey as an honor. It's the same thing with Heath. - Fer Barbarella, founder of a website calling for the Joker to be retired

Yeah, I think thats a stupid idea. Besides, you can never know for certain that someone wont come along in a decade and be the new "best" Joker. Just cause he died... Jeez. Reply

I mean Jack did do a good job, in his own way. And both her failrly true to the comic, but in terms of insane, no morals, degenerate genius, ledger really nailed it. Besides, there are plenty of other Batman villians to pick from, enough abotu the joker. Reply
