(Newser) – A group of Heath Ledger fans are calling for the Batman movies to hang up the Joker's purple suit for good as a tribute to the late actor's last role, CNN reports. Supporters at website "The Ultimate Joker" say no actor could ever nail the killer clown as well as Ledger did, and are aiming to get 50,000 people to sign their petition.

We think Heath deserves this honor. He is the ultimate Joker. When Michael Jordan retired, they withdrew the number 23 jersey as an honor. It's the same thing with Heath. - Fer Barbarella, founder of a website calling for the Joker to be retired

well.....After Heaths performance in that movie, retire the character or not.......anybody that tries to follow that role had better be of legendary acting ability, just to avoid seeming pathetic....I was never a real big Ledger fan, but that joker role he played......damn!.....it will be hard to top, I wish the next one luck, they are going to need it

Yeah, I think thats a stupid idea. Besides, you can never know for certain that someone wont come along in a decade and be the new "best" Joker. Just cause he died... Jeez.
