Obama Must Share Blame for Burris

(Newser) – Roland Burris is in the Senate embarrassing Illinois, and Rod Blagojevich isn’t the only one on the hook for that, writes John Kass of the Chicago Tribune. A fair share of the blame belongs to Barack Obama, who pressured Senate leaders to seat Burris—a move from which he's profited nicely, getting Burris’ vote on his “pork/stimulus package,” Kass rages.

“Obama’s legion of gentle Hopium eaters will become enraged, like flesh-eating zombies” and try to “gnaw on my rather large and meaty head,” Kass acknowledges. But facts are facts. Burris lied under oath, and the media aren't backing off the story. "He played the race card to get seated in the Senate," Kass charges, "but the race card doesn't have muscle now that America elected a black president."

A list of accomplishments of Roland Burris are seen Thursday, Jan. 9, 2009, carved on a mausoleum waiting for him in a South Side cemetery in Chicago. This is why Kass calls him Tombstone.

I agree-let the people vote. I've never understood the whole appointment mess. I also didn't like how Blago used the whole race issue to get Burris in (and I am Black). Why did another Black Senator have to be appointed just b/c one Black one moved up to a higher office? Put in the best person for the job, regardless of race, gender, religion, etc.

Pure BS! Last time I checked, Public officials were chosen by the people FOR the people. What's this appointment garbage? If you ask me, Mr. Burris acted a bit too eager, desperate, and opportunistic while they were weighing in the legality of his promotion. I say Illinois needs a vote.

I find it hilarious how people are always pointing fingers at the President for a states call. Regardless of Obama's influence in his home state. the call was theirs alone.
