Protesters Picket Post After Chimp Cartoon

Share

(Newser) – Hundreds of protesters led by the Rev. Al Sharpton assembled outside the New York Post’s headquarters today to condemn the paper's now-infamous chimpanzee cartoon, Newsday reports. Protesters called for a boycott and vowed to return tomorrow. They insist it's a racist slam against President Obama, while the paper calls it a "clear parody."

“Go to your newsstand and say, 'Do not sell it in our community,'” Sharpton told protesters.

The Post should at best clarify what point they were trying to make or in fact reprimand their cartoonist for making inferences that are offensive and divisive at a time the nation struggles to come together.

You wouldn't know racism if it smacked you upside your dense skull. What's going on here is that Al S. has a media opp and he's taking it. Where was all the outrage when completely sexist comments came out of Barack Obama's mouth...you know putting lipstick on a "pig". I guess you can only claim racism in this country if you are black. Everyone else should just suffer in silence.

uh, really? Obama didn't write the bill. It was Congress. I won't rebutt your statement on the rag though. Reply

This is not just racism. It is incitement to assassination. President Obama hasn't hurt anyone and is accused of no great wrong-doing, yet George W. Bush screwed up nearly everything he touched, and 100,000's of people died due to his decisions, and how many incitements like this cartoon did we see about Bush? Reply
