Charles Barkley Sentenced to 10 Days for DUI

Ex-NBA star pleads guilty; gets jail time and $2,000 fine

(Newser) – Charles Barkley will be doing time for his DUI bust, the Arizona Republic reports. The former NBA star has been sentenced to 10 days in prison, which will be reduced to five if he completes an alcohol education course. Barkley—who told cops he was in a hurry to receive oral sex when he was stopped on New Year's Eve—starts his sentence March 21.

(NEWSER) - A man spotted driving erratically on a stretch of New Mexico highway notorious for drunk-driving deaths was hogtied by a witness until police arrived. The man, seen barely avoiding head-on collisions as he drove southbound in northbound lanes, was confronted by fellow motorists when he pulled over at a convenience store. (NEWSER) - And the story of Rima Fakih's arrest gets worse: The former Miss USA was allegedly speeding and weaving through traffic when she was pulled over about 2:15am Saturday ... with a half-empty bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne behind the driver's seat of the 2011 Jaguar she was driving. (NEWSER) - This scandal is a bit worse than having a stripper past : Miss USA 2010, Rima Fakih, was arrested over the weekend in Michigan and faces drunken driving charges. Oddly, Fakih initially attempted to deny the reports, tweeting yesterday: "Let's clear things up now. ... I'm NOT in Michigan and I'm NOT in jail! Wrong Fakih." That tweet was later removed, People reports, and the 26-year-old's attorney confirmed the arrest today. More»

(NEWSER) - Want to know if there's a checkpoint ahead targeting speeders or drunk drivers? There's an app for that—many, in fact—but Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Frank Lautenberg, and Tom Udall say there shouldn't be.
