Crazy Eights: White Sox Down Yanks

(Newser) – The Yankees dropped a wacky one to the White Sox yesterday, losing 13-9 after both starting pitchers were forced out early. New York's Roger Clemens surrendered eight runs on nine hits in the second, and the Yanks responded by knocking out Jon Garland with eight runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

"I've had plenty of tough starts," Clemens said after allowing eight runs in one inning for the first time in over 20 years. "They don't get any easier." After a Jermaine Dye blast put Chicago ahead in the eighth, the Bombers failed to regain momentum; Bobby Abreu's solo homer in the 6th proved too little too late.
