Madoff Lawyer Hit by Death Threats

Accused swindler may have hid money under attorney's name

(Newser) – Bernard Madoff's criminal defense lawyer has received several death threats amid more than a dozen emails of a "cursing and screaming" nature, sources tell ABC. "I deeply regret that the Sorkin family did not perish in the Nazi death camps," said one angry email sent to Ira Lee Sorkin yesterday.

But Sorkin may not be a target for much longer. A judge will decide next week whether to boot the attorney from the case over a potential conflict of interest because Sorkin once represented a Madoff investor, or because the attorney's late father held a Madoff account. Prosecutors are also probing whether Madoff set up an account in Sorkin's name—without the lawyer's knowledge—to hide some of the funds from his alleged $50 billion scam, according to sources.

Old goat, don't you know/ It's the "golden Rule" them that has the gold makes the rules. It is truly amazing that someone who steals groceries for their hungry family sits in jail while someone who steal $50 billion sits in a penthouse bought with their illegal gains. Victor Hugo had it right.

I still don't understand why this guy isn't sitting in a jail somewhere instead of his luxury townhouse. The longer this drags out the more time he has to hide his assets.
