Chris Brown's lawyers are in talks with prosecutors about a plea deal that could see the singer hit with probation instead of jail time for his alleged assault on Rihanna, insiders tell E! Online. Brown would plead guilty to a misdemeanor under the deal. Prosecutors have been looking for evidence for a felony charge, but insiders say they are struggling to build a case.

"They have a victim who's back together with her alleged attacker and some conflicting statements from each side," a law enforcement source said. "It's not the slam dunk they hoped it would be." Brown is due to appear in court in Los Angeles today to be arraigned if no deal is reached first.
