Watchmen Sees Tepid Weekend Win

Blockbuster doesn't live up to opening-weekend projections

(Newser) – Who watches the Watchmen? Too few moviegoers to live up to box-office projections, says the Hollywood Reporter. The much-hyped flick earned only $55.7 million this weekend as Madea Goes to Jail locked in $8.8 million, Taken took $7.5 million, and Slumdog Millionaire kept riding its Oscar wave with $6.9 million. Watchmen’s long running time and R rating likely hurt its bottom line.

$56 million is weak? Since when? If they were expecting Batman or Spider-Man numbers, they're nuts. I bet nine of ten moviegoers had never heard of Watchmen 'til recently.

Saw it Friday night, knew nothing of the story. I thought it was great, very good dept of character. However 2.5 hrs. is to long to sit and watch a movie, also what was the sadistic purpose giving so much "focus" on Dr. Manhattan's penis???

C'mon folks, it was a pretty good movie. Certainly no Citizen Kane, but who would rightly expect as much. Go see it, enjoy it and let the story wash over you. It's certainly better than 98% of the drivel Hollywood puts out every year.
