A-Rod Smashes 500th Homer

Posted Aug 4, 07 3:23 CDT in US Sports

(Newser) – Alex Rodriguez finally blasted his way into the 500-homer club today, becoming, at age 32 and 8 days, the youngest baseball player to hit the mark. A-Rod swatted the first pitch he saw from Kansas City Royals' Kyle Davies, belting a three-run homer at Yankee Stadium. It had been a week since he hit  #499, and the fans were ecstatic.

Rodriguez is the 22nd player in Major League Baseball history to score 500 home runs. The record for youngest player was previously held by Jimmie Foxx who was 32 years and 338 days old when he did the deed. A-Rod becomes the third player in Yankees pinstripes to perform the feat, following Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle.
