'I Can't Do Anything Wrong Once I'm in the Pool'

Share

(Newser) – In his first post-bong-photo interview, Michael Phelps says he has a sure-fire way to stay out of trouble—get back to the "normal routine" of the swimming pool. In the interview—it airs tomorrow on NBC's Today show, notes Entertainment Tonight—Matt Lauer asks Phelps if he's worried the bong photo would supplant his image as a champion. "I have no control over that," says Phelps. The only thing he can control is getting back to the pool, "where my home is," and where "I know I can't do anything wrong."

What hubris. Like the old saying goes, "there's a reason they call it DOPE! Your medals will be forgotten but your sucking on that bong will be an everlasting legacy. How disgraceful. What will you do now, Mr. Phelps? Reply

I think you've got it backwards - Phelps' unprecedented Olympic feat will be long revered; the viewpoint that smoking marijuana is "disgraceful" will soon be forgotten. By the way, who was Friedrich Nietzsche again? George W. Bush? Louis Armstrong? Barack Obama? Michael Bloomburg? John Lennon? Newt Gingrich? Paul McCartney? Thomas Jefferson? George Washington? ...psshh... Stoners.

You are not a disgrace-you are not bad-I don'ty care if you had beer or weed-I 'm sure you learned from the experience and now knopw that the public will force you to live in a glass bubble and place expectations of you that they themselves could never live up to-you must grow up and make mistakes like all of us did-I hope you enjoy the journey and learn from all your experiences.
