Shops shut, concert canceled as tipster warns of 'many casualties'

(Newser) – Amsterdam police have busted seven people linked to a large-scale bomb plot in the city, authorities announced. An anonymous tipster told police the terror gang was planning an action aimed at "claiming casualties in busy places"; targets included megastores, reports the BBC. Several stores and a movie theater were closed, and a concert by The Killers was canceled as a precaution. All those arrested have joint Dutch and Moroccan citizenship. One is related to a suspect in the 2004 Madrid train bombings.

well it does seem that there is more evidence of violent islamic actions in the present than altruistic...but you have a valid lucid, non hatefull request, spoken out of genuine concern for people who suffered through a tragedy that was none of their doing. So tell ya what......I will lay off the "muslims" in general, and tone down any anti islamic rhetoric. Can I expect equal moderation in regards to christians, that I see equally derided in the many postings there, by many others?....So Ill "behave"....truce?

Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, a US citizen born in Somalia, drove a van to Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland and attempted to detonate a dummy explosive charge that had been rigged by the FBI, reports the Oregonian . (NEWSER) - Authorities charged nine people today in a Belgian anti-terror court following yesterday's raids in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, the Christian Science Monitor reports. Belgium charged 7 for plotting an attack on an unknown target within the country; they include 6 Belgian-Moroccans and a “Russian of Chechen origin.” Two were charged in connection with a plot to recruit jihadists to battle in Iraq and Afghanistan.
