Palin May Not Show for Dinner She's Headlining

GOP advertising her, but spokesman says governor is undecided

(Newser) – Congressional Republicans were getting ahead of themselves when they announced that Sarah Palin would headline June's Senate-House dinner in DC, one of the biggest GOP powwows of the year, the Anchorage Daily News reports. In reality, Palin hasn’t even decided if she’s attending, her spokesman said yesterday. “I communicated with the governor directly, and she did not know anything about it.”

"The committees have confirmed this with the governor's political staff at SarahPAC, not her official staff in Juneau, so it's understandable why there may be a miscommunication here," said an event spokesman.

Rob, to be honest the last time I looked I didn't see that she had any well thought out positions but was merely parroting the GOP line while adding in a few attempted punch lines like "pal-ing around with terrorists", "socialist" etc which were designed to instil fear in those who don't think things through very well (including the rebublican base which she was brought no board to secure for McCain). People do want thoughtful policy not just slogans and culture war branding (ie she's a good mom, a christian fundamentalist, a maverick, an outsider, a hunter etc etc.) Until Ms Palin actually shows she can think incisively and develops some policy points which she can discuss and debate thoroughly in open forum, she presents herself as a straw figure open to the type of insults you see here. I'm waiting patiently.

So Rob, you say you don't support her positions on most things..what's her position on free trade ? Iran ? stimulus ? fiscal and monetary policy ? Afghanistan ? education ? health care ? I don't have a clue. She didn't make a clear statement or rational argument on any of these issues or the other key planks in the McCain campaign and hasn't since. She was a combination attack dog and poster girl for culture clash identity. It is my perception that she didn't have a firm grasp on any of these substantive issues. Where's the beef ? I'm waiting patiently. Until she shows it she's just another also ran who needs to show that she's capable of better. That's not a criticism. It's just the state of affairs.

Hello woody, that was a much more valuable than the name calling, thank you. However I will say that much of what you say depends on your ability to read Palin’s mind. You do not know what her designs are, nor do you know that she is parroting things rather then positioning herself as a true believer. The fact that she is a hunter, or an outsider, or Christian fundamentalist are part of who she is, what she stands for and open guides to the fundamental workings of her policy decision making process. You cannot dismiss her out of hand because you think she is out of touch or unwanted on the scene because obviously there are many that agree with her and support her. Although you and I are not among them, the supporters of Sarah Palin cannot be dismissed because they are conservative and you feel that makes them out of touch, because they aren’t out of touch, just coming from a different place. I hope you appreciate my response as being as sincere and polemic free as yours.
