Misbehaving Thai Cops Say ‘Hello Kitty’

Posted Aug 6, 07 2:23 PM CDT in World Arts & Living

(Newser) – Police officers in Thailand caught breaking minor rules will be subjected to hot pink shame—“Hello Kitty” armbands. Attempting to stem more serious abuses of power, police brass intend to punish littering and tardiness with the cute accessories, the AP reports. The rule-breakers will not, however, be made to wear their new paraphernalia outside.

But the punishment is still serious: “It's not something macho police officers want covering their biceps," said a police colonel who explains that he wants the miscreants to "feel guilt and shame." The armbands, which wouldn't be out of place in the food court at the mall, feature the Japanese icon sitting upon two hearts.
