Milwaukee Jewel Thieves Get Robbed Leaving Store

(Newser) – Thieves in Milwaukee knocked off a jewelry store yesterday—only to be robbed of the loot themselves as they made their getaway, the Journal Sentinel reports. Police say the two suspects were confronted and robbed by at least four men as they left the store. Cops managed to arrest the original robbers, plus two of the others, but the jewels and money have not been recovered.

(NEWSER) - One for the Legendary Fail Department: A person dressed in a Gumby costume attempted to rob a San Diego 7-Eleven on Monday. Here are the problems the would-be criminal ran into: One, the clerk thought it was a joke. Even after Gumby said, "This is a robbery," the employee replied he had cleaning duties to attend to and didn't have time for him. Two, if said would-be robber had a weapon, he couldn't get to it. Cops say she drew it on outside

(AP) - Both Bonnie and Clyde would be proud. Cops say a woman drew a beard on her face and wore men's clothes to rob a bank in Alabama. She allegedly told tellers at the Bank of Tuscaloosa in Cottondale she had a bomb, placed a device on the counter, and asked for money. She made off with an unknown amount of cash, says the AP. Police think she might also have robbed another bank in early July. Local cops and the FBI are conducting investigations. More»

But cops are holding the bartender who made the report

(NEWSER) - Santa won't be spending Christmas Eve in the pokey after a report that a robber dressed as Kris Kringle hit a Rhode Island bar has been proven false, the AP reports. But if the fat man didn't rob the East Providence Yacht Club, someone else did—between $1,500 and $3,000 is still missing from the bar. Bartender Christal Johnson, who made the report, is being held. (NEWSER) - What's worse: Being drunk and pregnant, being drunk and pregnant and needing drug money, or being unable to get your weapon out of your pocket mid-robbery? A La Crosse, Wisc., woman—inebriated, with child, and in need of drug money—was arrested Tuesday night after trying to rob Taco John's. "I want a soft shell, and this is a stickup. Give me all your money," Julie Bailey allegedly told the cashier. Except she couldn't get her hammer out of her shorts. More»
