The Colts defense may have suffered a serious setback yesterday: Defensive tackle Anthony McFarland announced that he suffered a major knee injury in training camp and may be sidelined for the entire season. The 300-pound McFarland, a cornerstone of the reigning champions' D-line, apparently tore a patella tendon at camp.

McFarland went in for an MRI Saturday that Tony Dungy called "precautionary," but the test turned up severe damage, the Indy Star reports. The Colts were the pits on run defense last regular season, but McFarland's line put in a memorable performance in the playoffs, particularly in their Super Bowl victory over the Bears. McFarland's absence will render the line younger and smaller. (More Anthony McFarland stories.)
