(Newser) – The Colbert Nation did it: NASA’s contest to name a new room at the International Space Station is over, and the winner is “Colbert,” the AP reports. But don’t get too excited yet, Nation: The agency makes the final decision, and only promises to give top vote-getters “the most consideration.” Colbert’s write-in won with 230,539 of the total 1.2 million votes, beating top NASA choice “Serenity” by more than 40,000.

@RobN: It seems you haven't seen "Firefly". Serenity would have been a fantastic name.

Personally I thought it was hilarious and timely. I'm glad somebody was watching to make sure we did not call our new space station module after the Scientology god or whatever Xenu is. Now, THAT would have been embarassing.

The difference it makes is that most readers of this site assume that all Republicans have no sense of humor and can't get a laugh out of something like this. You're here all them time; don't pretend that attitude isn't obvious. Secondly, Serenity sucks. It's meaningless. As for the Enterprise, it was actually named after the Enterprise from Star Trek so that actually argues for using the name Colbert.
