Meghan McCain: I'm a New Kind of Republican

Tells Larry King she supports Obama, but is 'totally daddy's girl'

Share

(Newser) – Meghan McCain considers herself a “progressive Republican,” she told Larry King last night on CNN—a new, younger voice for the party. McCain, who’s been in the news lately for her spat with conservatives Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter, said she was “totally daddy’s girl,” but disagrees with him on social issues. “We have a very big generation gap between me and my father,” she said.

Of the Ingraham spat, she said it was over as far as she was concerned, and that she had never heard of Ingraham beforehand. Asked if she, like Rush Limbaugh, wanted Obama to fail, she replied, “I would never want my president to fail,” and that all negative feelings from the election were gone: “I support the president.”

A progressive Republican? Cool. Those haven't existed since the early 1900s when Teddy Roosevelt split from the Republicans and joined the Progressive "Bull Moose" Party. Since then Republicans have barely been Republicans except for the days of Goldwater which seem so far gone. The party has become an ideology instead of a set of principles like it pretends to be. Progressives support all the things that Republicans pretend to. Being a social liberal and fiscal moderate, I would be glad to support a Progressive Republican party that splits off the concentrated pile of scum that the far right has become. They are hijacking the party and will eventually kill it by shunning "intellectual conservatives" like Frum and Brooks. Reply

She's no Teddy Roosevelt. You say you're socially moderate and fiscally conservative? Welcome to the Libertarian party.

Did you fail reading comprehension? No one said she is Teddy Roosevelt. And I said I'm a fiscal moderate not conservative. But thanks for attempting to read. Keep trying, you'll get it one day.
