'Miss Cleo': TV Psychic to Lesbian Activist

(Newser) – Remember Miss Cleo? Her thick Caribbean accent is familiar to many late-night TV watchers, from pitches for the Psychic Readers Network. The Miami Herald finds that since the lawsuit that took down Youree Dell Cleomili Harris’ former employer, she’s come out as a lesbian, voice-acted in a video game, released a spoken-word CD, and now has an internet radio show on Chicago’s Windy City Queercast. (NEWSER) - A blind Florida woman is suing Gov. Rick Scott over his order suspending the state’s rulemaking process—and her attorneys had some fun with the filing. Rosalie Whiley thinks the governor overstepped his constitutional bounds, while the governor says he has the “ supreme executive power ” to do so. Supreme Court: We Won't Fast-Track ObamaCare Suit

(NEWSER) - The Supreme Court has denied Virginia’s request to fast-track the state’s case against the health care law, MSNBC reports. Virginia’s attorney general had sought to take the case—which calls the law’s requirement that almost all Americans purchase health care unconstitutional—straight to the high court, a legal move that's hardly ever allowed. The decision means that the Virginia case, one of several against the law, will keep progressing through US appeals courts. More»

Homeless Paid $50 to Get Beat Up in Fetish Videos

Dominatrix films violate Florida hate crime laws, suit charges

(NEWSER) - Owners of a Florida Internet company are being sued for paying homeless men $50 to be filmed while women punched and kicked them in dominatrix fetish videos, according to court documents. The company sells "beatdown videos" of women attacking men for up to $900 on its site at Shefights.net . The suit charges that the St. Petersburg business violates a state law against hate crimes. Some of the homeless have been hospitalized as the result of the beatings, and men have suffered broken ribs and a dislocated jaw, according to the suit. A homeless advocate became suspicious months ago when he saw several men on local streets with limps, bruises, and split lips . More»

(NEWSER) - One slightly bent Florida fellow is suffering from more serious depressions, higher hypertension and more stressful stress, he's charging in a typo-riddled lawsuit filed against WikiLeaks. He's in "constant fear of being stricken by another heart attack or stroke" because he now believes the world is "on the brink of Nucliar WAR," notes David Pitchford in his suit demanding $150 million.
