'Italian Fritzl' and Son Arrested

Father accused of raping daughter, encouraging son to do the same

(Newser) – Italian police have arrested a father and son in an incest case they are comparing to the horrors of the Fritzl household, the Daily Telegraph reports. The patriarch of the Turin family is accused of controlling and raping his daughter for 25 years and encouraging his son to rape both his sister and his own four daughters.

Prosecutors say the men, both scrap metal dealers, completely dominated the women in the family through a psychological "reign of terror." The elder man's daughter, 34, who police say was often kept locked in a darkened room, is being given psychiatric treatment at a shelter along with her four nieces. The two men deny all charges and are being defended by other family members.

Leave it to the Romans not to be outdone by mere Austria. So, is this kind of thing becoming more frequent, or better investigated? I always considered this incest and inbreeding thing to be more common to the southern U.S.... particularly southern Missouri and southeast from there. There, that should stimulate some discussion. I am a transplanted northerner who happens to live in Missouri now and has traveled extensively across the US. I have met inbred shitheads from every ethnic group in every part of the country. While it's common to pick on the South on this issue many of the most ignorant uneducated inbred morons I have met in my life came from northern states. People are people, while we like to think of ourselves as cultured and educated there's still a big chunk that goes to family reunions to meet chicks and thinks tissue paper is what you wipe your hands off with after you blow your nose.

This type of behavior is not restricted to any group. If anything, it's human but civilization in general has moved away from it. That doesn't mean, though, that there are not the primitive-minded, violent-prone among us.
