Obama Rolls Out Sunday Best for TV Talkers

Prez turns to political talk shows in risky strategy

(Newser) – In his embrace of YouTube and town hall meetings, President Obama hasn’t forsaken “the old gray mare of Washington journalism:” the Sunday talk shows, Mike Allen writes on Politico. Obama, Timothy Geithner, and Robert Gates will fan out across the airwaves tomorrow to advance their agenda, but the blitz is risky. An off-message gaffe or Geithner imperfection could be all the rage Monday morning.

The bookings suggest Obama wants to be seen as a “calm multi-tasker,” Geithner a competent official, and Gates a supporter of the Afghanistan plan. Obama's use of Sunday shows is "an embarrassment of riches," said Fox's Chris Wallace, after the Bush White House often withheld top name officials. Obama is “very aggressive in trying to flood the zone to set the tone and tenor of the debate,” said CNN’s John King.

Not to be a dick, but "embarrassment" in that context is actually a compliment to Obama. Seriously, look it up. All they said is that he's got a surplus of access. Ironically, that's probably the same mistake Fox's editors figured their conservative audience would make...
