HuffPo Starts Investigative Journo Venture

(Newser) – Laid-off journalists, take heart: The Huffington Post, aiming to take up the slack as daily newspapers shrink staffs, is about to fund an investigative team that will begin by casting critical eyes on the economy. Ten staff journalists, coordinating with freelancers, will provide work to other sites at the same time as the HuffPo, says Arianna Huffington. The venture will start with a $1.75 million budget, reports AP.

Although the HuffPo is well known for its liberal slant, the investigative group will aim for unbiased journalism. "We care about democracy, not Democrats," says its executive director. Huffington says she and donors were concerned about the recent fall of several papers, noting that "All of us increasingly have to look at different ways to save investigative journalism."

The Huffington Post is known for its liberal stance, but Arianna Huffington's new investigative journalism venture won't show a bias, sources say.
