Pistachio Recall Continues to Expand

(Newser) – Fears of salmonella contamination have led more companies in the US and Canada to recall their pistachio products, Reuters reports. FritoLay, which is supplied by the supposed source of the contamination, California packager Setton International, is pulling packages of certain sizes and sell-by dates on both sides of the border. Another snack maker and the Kroger supermarket chain have done the same.

The recall even affects to a gelato maker whose product includes chopped pistachios supplied by Setton. The Western Pistachio Association said its members are continuing to test shipments to ensure they are safe, while the FDA is conducting genetic tests to determine whether the nuts are linked to illness. In an unrelated scare, Kroger has pulled some of its mayonnaise due to possible egg-based salmonella contamination.
