Thousands Gather for Goody Funeral

Share

(Newser) – Thousands of mourners and well-wishers turned out for Jade Goody's funeral today, lining the streets of south London as the the reality star, who died last month of cervical cancer at age 27, made her final journey in a vintage Rolls Royce, the Guardian and CNN report. Massive screens outside St John the Baptist church relayed the ceremony in real time, although the burial afterward was restricted to close friends and family.

Goody reportedly planned every detail of the ceremony herself, and she and her family hoped the highly public event would raise awareness about the disease that felled her. "Had Jade been found to have cervical cancer much earlier, she'd have had such a better chance,” said the funeral director. “That is the message they want to give to everybody."

In life she loved being loved and it is pretty clear that this is the overwhelming feeling today. She will have a big smile on her face when she sees what is going on today.”

How does one well-wish a corpse? "Hope you get to feeling better!"? Reply

Believe it or not, some people see a funeral as a sort of bon voyage party: they imagine the deceased is disembarking for "a better place". (Better get travel insurance!)

Right now, in London, and your city too, other young mothers of young children are also dying of cancer, yet no one negotiated a deal that would net their surviving family millions, nor will millions mourn their passing. This is such bullshit is poor taste. How can people be such pawns? FOOLS! Reply
