Let Madge Adopt My Niece: Uncle

Family 'decided it's in her best interest'

(Newser) – The uncle of a 3-year-old Malawi girl whom Madonna had hoped to adopt has blasted a court ruling blocking the action, reports the Telegraph. "We as a family agreed that it's in the best interests of Mercy to have her adopted, so why should the judge stop this?" he asked. The judge nixed the adoption last week because the singer ignored a requirement that prospective adoptive parents must live in Malawi at least 18 months.

Madonna was devastated by the ruling, said witnesses, and shouted at her attorney, "What went wrong? How could this have happened?" when the judge announced her decision, reports the Sun. The singer plans to appeal.
