Farrah Fawcett’s anal cancer spread to her liver in 2007, indicating that the malady is worse than previously thought, the AP reports. Her ongoing stay at a Los Angeles hospital is the result of treatment she underwent in Germany, but not directly related to her cancer, her doctor said. She is expected to leave the hospital in a few days.

A producer who works with Fawcett said the German treatment for the liver cancer “never had anything to do with stem cells,” as widely thought. “It’s much more scientific than that. It’s not a fringe treatment.” Aside from the painful complication, Fawcett is in relatively good health. “As previously reported by everybody, she’s not unconscious,” the producer said. “She is not on death’s door. The family has not gathered to say goodbye.” (More Farrah Fawcett stories.)
