White House Mulls Drastic Action on Climate Change

Geo-engineering could be last resort, Holdren says

Share

(Newser) – Global warming may get to the point where drastic "geo-engineering" measures to cool the earth will be necessary, President Obama’s top science adviser tells the AP. John Holdren said shooting reflective particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect some sunlight is a last resort, but one he's raised with other administration officials. "We don't have the luxury of taking any approach off the table," said Holdren.

There are several possible signs that would show global warming to be reaching a “tipping point” which would necessitate drastic measures, Holdren said. One indicator would be the disappearance of all summertime Arctic sea ice. But it’s difficult to tell how close the earth is to such watersheds, said Holdren, who likened global warming to being “"in a car with bad brakes driving toward a cliff in the fog."

How about changing our self-destructive consumer driven lifestyle? Why is that taken off the table? So we can pay $billions for space age techno-fix that allows us to keep burning more coal and gasoline? Reply

These fixes won't let us keep burning... they'll help counteract the effects we've already ensured.

There's no such thing as global warming; it's a big commie lying scheme to destroy capitalism. Just ask Rush Limbaugh, or for that matter Michael Steel. Reply

Global Warming is a FARCE and blatant lie of an excuse to tax the living crap out of all of us in the USA. IF CHINA gets on board with drastically cutting "carbon footprints" I'll shut up and smooch President Obama's arse. Reply

Why do most climatologists disagree with you, especially those with no ties to big business who might be hurt by any climate change policies?
