Second Suspect Surrenders in Newark Killings

Posted Aug 9, 07 1:37 PM CDT in Crime & Courts US

(Newser) – A man Newark's mayor called the "principle suspect" in last weekend's brutal schoolyard murders turned himself in to police this afternoon, the Star Ledger reports. Jose Carranza was picked out of a photo array by the lone survivor of the killing spree several hours after cops arrested a 15-year-old boy whose fingerprints were found at the crime scene.

Carranza, who has three previous arrests, and the teenager are not the only suspects, Mayor Cory Booker said as the investigation gained speed. Three college students were murdered in the Newark schoolyard late Saturday: 19-year-old Natasha Aeriel survived a gunshot to the head before her brother and two other men were walked to a wall and fatally shot.
