Madonna Makes Plea for Malawian Adoption

Singer pledges to do right by 3-year-old Mercy

(Newser) – After failing to adopt a 3-year-old Malawian girl, Madonna is showing off her maternal side, Us reports. “I want to provide Mercy with a home, loving family environment and the best education and healthcare possible,” the pop star, who has already adopted one child from the country, told a Malawian newspaper. “It's my hope that she, like David, will one day return to Malawi and help the people of their country.”

Could someone please explain to me why it is so important for her to adopt a child from a far off land, yet she has not (apperently) ever thought of adopting a child from the country she lives in , who needs a home. If this was about being charitable, benevolent, or kind, she wouldn't need to go half way around the world to find a child in need- there are plenty right here, even if they wouldn't be as impressive to the media.
