Beckham Makes it Off Bench

Posted Aug 10, 07 6:38 AM CDT in US Sports

(Newser) – Despite an injured ankle, soccer megastar David Beckham finally made his long-awaited Los Angeles Galaxy debut last night in a 1-0 loss to D.C. United.  Becks came off the bench and played 20 minutes in front of the sellout crowd, chalking up no shots or tackles, but making one pretty pass to teammate Landon Donvovan.

"It's not nice to disappoint people who have paid a lot of money to see the game, so I was thankful to actually get on the pitch. It's a big step forward for me," said Beckham. "It was a good night, but also a bad night because we ended up losing."  And he wasn't limping when he left the field.
