Ex-pupil boyfriend held in murder of Ariz. woman's teen lover

(AP) – An 18-year-old Arizona high school student caught with his 48-year-old math teacher in her bedroom was stabbed to death by her boyfriend, who is himself a former student of hers, police said yesterday. Sixto Balbuena, 20, a Navy sailor on leave, was arrested on a murder charge after police found him covered in blood.

Police said Balbuena told them he stabbed Samuel Valdivia with a kitchen knife because he "wanted to teach the victim a lesson." The teacher, Tamara Hofmann, is being investigated for potential misconduct relative to her involvement with Valdivia, police said. Records show Hofmann was suspected of having a sexual relationship with a then-17-year-old Balbuena in 2006 but police closed the case after they both denied it.

(NEWSER) - A 76-year-old Boy Scout leader has died after being stabbed in the neck yesterday while taking another adult and two boys on a hike, reports AP . Police busted Shane Golitko, a 22-year-old man who lives close to the Indiana hiking trail where the unprovoked attack occurred. Golitko's mother called 911 just before the stabbing, saying he broke her arm and stabbed two dogs before walking to the trail where the Boy Scouts were walking, said investigators. (NEWSER) - A home-schooled 12-year-old Colorado boy described as "the sweetest kid" is in police custody following the fatal shooting of his deeply religious parents and the stabbing of two younger siblings. Stunned police are trying to piece together the bloody rampage inside the boy's home in the quiet community of Burlington. Charles Long, 50, and his 51-year-old wife, Marilyn, were found dead, and a brother and sister were in critical condition, reports the Denver Post . Iraqi immigrant felt daughter had become too Westernized

(NEWSER) - An Iraqi immigrant accused of killing his daughter because he felt she had become too Westernized has been found guilty of her murder. Faleh Almaleki ran over his daughter and her fiance's mother in a parking lot in a Phoenix suburb in 2009 and then fled the scene, leaving both women with serious injuries.
