Why Waste Tea When Taxes Are Going Down?

(Newser) – Want to get in on the fun and excitement of the anti-Obama Taxpayer Tea Party? Here’s how, writes Marc Cooper in the Los Angeles Times: “Go to a hobby store. Buy a scale model of a UN One-World-Government Black Helicopter and a tube of glue. Toss the model kit. Sniff the entire tube of glue. You’re all set for the party.”

Cooper sees the parties as an “outbreak of collective insanity,” the likes of which we’ve not seen since "the chilling, televised midnight seance" for Terri Schiavo. What the heck are these people protesting? For all but the richest Americans, taxes are going down. If they’re upset about bailouts or deficits, shouldn’t they have chucked their chai to protest Bush? The whole thing “is a rather garish display of a Republican right that seems to have lost any semblance of political bearings.”

They may be protesting taxes, but I think one of the other things they are protesting is the projected TEN Trillion dollar deficit the U.S. is working towards, leaving my children and their children (and possibly their children's children) in debt to countries like China. And a tea party is just the first step. Conservatives are starting to become more active. They are becoming angry with government in general, because of the War, because of the economy, because of the lack of candor in from the people WE elected to Congress (you know, Congress basically being like an employee that you hire to work for you, and then they tell YOU how the job is going to be done, how much you are going to pay them, etc., and then instead of doing their job, they go on a vacation with your money.) Conservatives are starting to speak of revolution, you know, protest with a bullet instead of a teabag, per our Second Amendment rights. (That IS the reason for the 2nd Amendment; not so we can go hunting or shoot intruders in our homes. At least, that's the reason the founding fathers gave.) It is this growing sentiment amongst the populace at large that Prompted Napolitano to issue her statement regarding so-called "extremist" groups. This is why it's a curse in some parts of the world to wish someone to live in "interesting times." Reply

This may be ancient history to some, but I well remember in 1992, when Clinton raised taxes on no one but the wealthy, Rush Limbaugh (yes he was around back then) convinced all his listeners that, regardless of their incomes, that their taxes were being raised. Well said! I'm not sure if anyone else realized this or not, but the entire banking collapse was catalyzed by the repeal of Glass-SteagalL act. Can anyone tell us who repealed this act? What party was he from? Hmmmmm.. I also seem to remember learning this exact same thing happened TO THE ECONOMY in the 30's. Now what did the governemnt do then to prevent it from happening for over 70 years? Oh yeah, they enacted the Glass-Steagal act....hmmmm, It is funny that as soon as the act was repealed, the economy, or banks better yet, ballooned to a unsustainable size and popped. Just because Bush was in office when it happened, doesn't mean he catalyzed it. He just helped it a long with his enormous war spending. Democrats and Republican have cause this problem TOGETHER!!!!!! none of you name calling fools are helping the issue any. Educate you damn selves and stop attacking each other. Our country is in real peril, and believe it or not, the Federal Governement, whether it is Democrat or Republican controled, DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU THINK! Taxes? This is about spending, not taxes. Doesn't any of you realize that someone (don't count on the "rich" there aren't enough of them) has to pay the billions of dollars that the politicians have given out. This isn't Repub vs. Dems. It is fiscal sanity vs. spend and spend and promise no tax increases. That is not a sustainable scenario and the politicians know it. Hope the Obama followers figure it out soon so they can join the protests and cut down the spending. Reply

Snowleopard: are you familiear with Wildfires and their purpose in nature. Just like wildfires are necessary to clear old growth to allow for newer stronger growth, it is necessary for our unsustainable economy to collapse so it can be rebuilt with new and stronger ideals. All were are doind is dousing the trees "our economy" to put the fire out, but the the original cause will not be removed and as soon as the water that put them out dries up, the trees "Our economy" will be prone to another wildfire. So yes, collapse would have been better. We through water on an unsustainable problem and the bigger we let it get, the more it will hurt when we can no longer put the flames out.

The budget was in balance, and budget surpluses we're projected when Bush took over from Clinton -- this, as a result of Clinton pushing through a tax increase on the wealthy, early in his administration. Instead of paying down the national debt, and securing the future of Social Security as Al Gore wanted to do, Bush chose to undo what Clinton did. Thus, our present sorry situation. Reply

Republicans don't stand for less government as proved by Bush. Dems clearly stand for as much government as possible. When it comes to management, less is more. Let people do what they need to to get the job done and reward them for their efforts. Repubs are DOA? Why dont these right wing nut teabaggers protest against the Bush enabled corporations who use the Cayman Islands and other off shore places to avoid paying their corporate taxes. These tax losses amount to over 200 billion dollars that we peons end up making up for. Why arent they protesting that? Reply

I don't believe most of the comments here have any idea what these people are protesting. Its not about dems or rep. its about creating a debt that will take decades to overcome. If America had the money to pay back the debt that is being created it would be impossible to be in recession. However, we don't have the money and are comfortable in pushing the liability on to future generations. Reply

When there is so much hypocrisy in the purported reasons, I look for something that makes sense: I think racism makes sense...as a reason for all the wide-eyed fear.
