Something's Fishy About Kutcher's 1M Followers

(Newser) – Ashton Kutcher’s prodigious Twitter following might have been rigged, Owen Thomas writes for Gawker. A commenter pointed out that after a user signs on to follow “the model-actor-director-wantrepreneur,” it’s impossible to undo the move. A Twitter error message suggests refreshing the page and trying again, but doing so “does not solve the problem.” The plot thickens.

That is not "rigged" - that is one of the many problems that are recurring on twitter because of the bogged down servers. It has simply grown too fast to keep up. I tried to use the simple "search for people" for 2 days last week and it would not work - kept saying due to twitters over-capacity, some things were not functioning, such as search. And during the last week I tried to unfollow several people and it did not work. Also, I'm not getting updates from people I *do* follow. Twitter needs to seriously update their hardware to handle the demand, especially since Oprah joined today and made a big deal about it on her show - which means probably another million joining soon. Anyway, no conspiracy. I think it's more suspicious that someone already following Kutcher would choose not to when it was simply a "hey lets have a party for 1 million" since he was ALMOST THERE ANYWAY, and was going to donate a bunch of money for charity - why would you choose that time to say "I'm not following!"? He went to ustream and was talking there, he wasn't "talking too much" on twitter to annoy anyone. But whatever.

Twitter is irrelevant. Another internet fad that will come and go.
