(Newser) – The family of Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali really is stuck in the slums of Mumbai, and her father may be trying to trade her in for his ticket out, the News of the World reports. The tab contacted Rafiq Qureshi, posing as a rich Dubai couple interested in adopting Rubina, after hearing that Qureshi had offered to sell her.

"I have to consider what's best for me, my family and Rubina's future," said Qureshi, who claims that he has "got nothing out of this film." His $300,000 asking price is equivalent to millions of rupees, and far beyond Rubina's salary for the movie ($3000), not to mention Qureshi's daily wage of $4.

I'm right there with you anchower. Never watched this movie for this very reason. It's a shame the kids weren't looked out for better. I wonder what her agent made. A better boycott would be to include any future projects by Boyle, Loveleen Tandan, Simon Beaufoy and Vikas Swarup.

Oh and also the reference to "Slum" in the title is just ironic. Let's make a movie called "Project Ghetto" and find a bunch of little kids in the projects and pay them 5000 dollars while the movie makes 300 million, and see how well it goes over.

The thing I find more disgusting here is the fact that everyone is constantly raving about this movie, still, and those stars were paid squat. It's the equivalent of using sweatshop labor, but in this case they did it publicly and everyone just gushes about the movie like it doesn't even matter. It's pretty ridiculous. I've never seen this movie and I never will.
