Slumdog Star's Mom, Stepmom Lock Horns

Stepmom says biological mom had no interest in Rubina Ali until the Oscars

(Newser) – The mother and stepmother of Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali slapped and tore at each other in a Mumbai slum today, the Daily Mail reports. The mother started the catfight after Ali's dad, Rafiq Qureshi, was arrested for allegedly trying to sell the 9-year-old for £200,000. “You treacherous b*tch, give my daughter back," Rubina's mother cried as neighbors looked on.

Rubina's mom, Khushi, "has been after Rubina since the time she went to the Oscars,” stepmom Munni said after the fight. “For seven years before that, she didn't care. I love Khushi's children more than she would have loved them." Ali’s father has denied reports of trying to sell Ali. saying foreign journalists played "games with me" and invented the story. Slumdog's concerned director and producer plan to visit the child star next month.

They "plan to visit her." They WILL give her money when she turns 18 IF she finishes high school. All Danny Boyle and his cronies have given this poor baby are empty promises (and, I suppose a trip to Disneyland--WOW). They need to step up and get this girl and her family out of the slums. It is just incredible that when you watch the movie the girl's not just playacting living in a slum. She's still there in real life. Reply

It is odd that, once again, wealth and fame become a curse and destroy a family..... Reply

It's not odd. It's human. We're progressing from this, but VERY slowly. At heart, we're still a primitive race.
