Woods Catches Fire in Tulsa

Tiger storms into PGA lead with 7-under 63, tying record

(Newser) – In his last chance to win a major in 2007, Tiger Woods hit a record-tying 63 in yesterday's second round at the PGA Championship in Tulsa. He recorded eight birdies against one bogey and would have hit 62, a score never achieved in 403 Grand Slam events, had his 18th-hole putt for birdie not lipped out.

Woods starts today's action in first place, 2 strokes ahead of Scott Verplank, an Oklahoma native who has never won a major. Another confidence-booster: Woods is 7-0 in majors when leading after two rounds. If he hangs on to capture his 13th Grand Slam, he'll be five away from Jack Nicklaus's record 18.
